Best value in wool blankets?

I am wanting to get some wool blankets to keep around the house and in the car in case of emergencies and I am wondering what the best value is. From what I have gathered, my best bet is probably surplus Italian army blankets. I can find those brand new for $20 or so online, the USGI blankets are similar in price, but I believe the Italian blankets are 100% virgin wool.

I just need something durable and warm to add to my supplies. I know the best blankets cost a lot of money, and there are really too many things fighting for my money for me to spend that much cash on a blanket.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Jeremy

I got 5 of the italians and they are 100% virgin wool.
Took a minute to get out the mothball smell, but worth the effort!

I got one from Harbor Freight. I'm sure it's not the best quality, but it works and it sure was cheap. I think it was like $12.

Sportsman Guide usually has some cheap, high quality, military surplus blankets. They usually sell in bulk.

I can only speak for the Italian blankets... I got some in last month from Sierra Trading Post. With coupon code I think they were about $26 each shipped. They were all great quality but I will say they come in 3 levels of smell.

1 - Not bad at all... 2 days outside and good enough to bring in the house.
2 - So-So... 2 days outside and 3 washings made these good to go.
3 - Very bad... aired out and washed, still stink..!

Good luck, Ski

I have wool blankets, and plenty of wool clothes. There's no reason to repeat the advantages of wool. I'm not sure there's great advantages to be had if you're only looking to keep blankets in the house. Practically any blanket (or sleeping bag) would work as well, and would probably be less expensive. If it must be wool, though, the Italian blankets are the way to go.
