The combination of the internet and the recession has really demolished the over-the-counter cutlery trade in the Twin Cities area. I wanted to help a friend pick a knife, but there are almost no stores left. I found a few items at Wally World and Gander Mountain, but almost no selection elsewhere.

What chains or stores actually carry more than a couple models of Kershaw in your area? Where can you send a friend to find enlightenment?

Sportsman's Wharehouse has a decent selection and is about a 40-45 min drive for me.
They're usually way behind on newer models but they do have a nice selection for a
brick and morter.

I used to go to Sportsman's Warehouse in Colorado; unfortunately the nearest one to me now is in Iowa. On my way to Iowa I have passed a Cabela's. Unfortunately that one is about 60 miles away. The nearest Cabela's is in Rogers, around 30 miles from here. I'm really hoping to find a place my buddy and I could visit during an extended lunch hour. That probably means within 20 miles.

I like the suggestions, keep them coming.

Hardware stores sometimes carry knives. Gun stores almost always carry knives around here, especially if they cater more to the hunting crowd than the tacticool crowd. Although the selection would be limited, Walmart and Target both carry some.

I don't know though. Is "South of Minnetonka" basically North of nowhere? :D

The only thing I miss about not living in Illinois anymore is Grand Prairie Knives. Large selection of Kershaw and everything else.

My Walmart carries the black Leek, tanto Blur, Shalot, Skyline, Chive, and the Needs Work, the last time I was there.

The Walmarts I have seen around here don't have a knife display counter. I have never seen more than 4 varieties blister-packed and hanging in the stores. It may seem silly, but I didn't think of gun stores--doh! I haven't drop in on any since I got here last May. I will hunt some up ASAP.

"South of Minnetonka" covers a variety of places I have lived lived briefly since I got here last May. Right now I am in Chanhassen, "Home of Dinner Theater". It is north of habitable regions of the earth.

Do you have a Dicks Sporting Goods? The one here has a pretty decent selection of Kershaws..

I looked at two local Dick's Sporting Goods and the selection was meager to poor. The first one was poor while the second one was meager. Maybe this is a Minnesota thing.
