Best way to care for a knife you just carry?

So I just carry a knife. Right now I have moved back to carrying my glock knife. I am wondering what is the best way to care for this knife? Like do I need to oil it or anything? I have no plans to use it unless a self defense situation comes up. Can we please say serious in this thread.

Thanks

How can you expect this thread to be serious when you blatantly say you're going to use a tool for a weapon ????
You'd be better off moving this thread to prac-tac if you are looking for suggestions that should be common sense when caring/maintaining weapons.

^Very valid question. But more importantly how do you plan on carrying the knife? Are you still sticking them down your pants? Because I remember the selfies you posted and I imagine you sweat quite profusely, if you are sticking it down your pants you will definitely want to keep it well oiled.

If the knife is not going to be opened or closed for months on end, I would imagine you would only have to lightly oil it once a year, at most.

That said, I honestly have NO idea. My knives are tools and they get opened/closed/used multiple times daily. But even then, I don't oil my knives every month. But, that all depends. If I get it dirty to the point that I have use a compressed air blow gun to clean it or to take it apart to clean it, it will need a bit of oil.
I have no idea about a knife never used, like I said I would imagine it only needs to be oiled yearly, if that. BTW, just buy some mace, it is so much more effective in many ways.

I suggested to oil it daily so that you don't forget how to open it and then it will at least get opened once per day. (won't seize up on you for when you may really need it!).

I suppose there is always RenWax....that's museum quality.

Or you can slob Cosmoline all over it. Good enough for Soviet surplus weaponry!

I carry, and use, my knife every day. I clean it when it gets dirty. I sharpen it before it's dull. I oil it if it gets sticky.
If I expected to use it in a self defense situation, I'd carry my .45. (Which also is clean and lubed.)

It's a glock, don't worry abou- oh, glock knife, that's different. Every month you need to lay it on a goose down (not duck, goose) pillow under the full moon to recharge its power. If you fail to do that, when you go to use it it will immediately break and explode into glitter.

Seriously, it's a knife, not a car or other complex mechanical object. Oil it occasionally, sharpen when needed and don't put it near your jaime lion jr bits unless you plan on becoming a eunuch

I'm going to be very honest with you right now.
You do not belong here.

This is a knife forum for knife people which you are not, a knife person carries a knife to cut stuff.
A knife person doesn't carry only one knife to not cut stuff, and chooses instead to tear, use teeth, and search for scissors.
We cannot be serious when talking to you, we just can't.

Now in trying my best to be serious I would tell you to just put some grease on the blade then stick it in it's sheath and forget about it.

Stainless knives need little care apart from keeping the blade sharp. The pivot area can be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol, or dish soap and hot water, and compressed air. Keeping the blade sharp is the most important though, because if you ever need to cut something like a seatbelt, you might not live to regret overlooking this simple fact.

I've never understood carrying a knife solely for self defense purposes. The chances of a scenario coming up where it would get any use are just SO damn small. Do you walk around with a parachute on your back too?

And in the words of some smart dude... "No one wins a knife fight, one person just gets cut less."

If you're really interested in self defense, get a gun. If you're not allowed to own a gun, you're actually not allowed to carry a knife (if it's intended purpose is as a weapon) either.

Yeah, the loser of the knife fight dies at the scene, the winner dies in the ambulance. Not sure who said that one, but it’s damn true.

Knives are for sandwiches and string, branches and boxes.

The knife I carry at the moment is a glock field knife 78 a fixed blade knife with a blade length of 6.5 inches. The knife does not have the serations on the back of it so it is not the glock field knife 81.

What state are you referencing? I am pretty sure South Dakota does not care about anything other than conceal carrying a gun.

For sandwiches I use a kitchen knife, for boxes I use a box cutter if I have more than one box to cut, for branches I use sheers or a saw, and for string I can see using a pocket knife or scissors depending where I am at.

I wasn't referencing any particular state. I was referencing people who have had their gun rights suspended (i.e. someone with a felony conviction, etc).

After looking at your past posts, I have a hard time believing this is anything more than a troll account, so this will probably be my last post in this thread.

In many counties in the state of CA it is nearly impossible to obtain a concealed carry permit, but it is perfectly legal to carry most folding knives openly or concealed and most fixed blade knives openly (but not concealed) for any reason. So while most people in these counties can GET a gun, they are not allowed to carry that gun for self defense. They can carry knives, or pepper spray, or tasers.
