best way to carry my MS?

I'm thinking that, in order to travel as light as possible, I'll be taking only my DW-MS with me on a trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.
I've only got the kydex sheath that came with it and I'm not sure I want to use it for this trip. Since it will be over water for the most part, I want to be sure it is very secure - no chance of losing it. I'm open to suggestions as to what sheaths or other carry methods are out there for the MS.
Also, do you think the MS will be OK for general camp use, cleaning fish, cooking, etc? I'll use a camp saw for cutting firewood, etc.
Thanks

I'm open to suggestions as to what sheaths or other carry methods are out there for the MS.

If you have the same type of Kydex sheath that I have for my LMS - with an integral belt loop, where the knife locks into the first rivet hole in the handle - I'd suggest the following:
1) Drill through the sheath where it covers the talon hole in the knife, and then pass something through it; I'm looking for the right size cotter-pin for mine, and I'll attach the cotter-pin to the sheath with paracord. That would be pretty secure.
2) You could also just work out a quick-release slip knot to lash the knife to the sheath, but I think I like the first idea better.

Also, do you think the MS will be OK for general camp use, cleaning fish, cooking, etc? I'll use a camp saw for cutting firewood, etc.

The short answer is yes, if you have something else to handle cutting, chopping, etc. However, I'd also take a larger knife anyway - but that's just me. ;)

Well, this may sound a little stupid but... You could take a 4 foot section of 550 ParaCord. Tie one end to your belt or belt loop and the other to the lanyard hole at the end of your handle. Coil the slack and place in pocket or "fluke it" behind your belt. If the MS should somehow come lose from the sheath it won't go very far and you can still use the knife while the lanyard is attached. I've done this plenty of times with knives, etc. when on the water.

HarryDog,
I think the MS will work great for general camp use, however, it might not be ideal for splitting wood ;):D It is an awesome utility knife and will work fine for the jobs you have listed.

As far as your carry method, I would consider something to lock it in the sheath when not in use, and a lanyard around your wrist when in use if you are around the water. I've got several MS and LMS and I'm pretty sure they don't float ;):D

Let us know how the trip goes, it sounds great:D

HD,I have spent a lot of time in canoe and kayak on open water with a busse on my side.Your best method in my opinion is a sheath with a snap or two snaps like a jump qualified sheath and a lanyard on the handle.I always employ a lanyard of some type when canoeing or rock climbing. Also no offense to the previous post but please be careful if you employ any type of length of paracord to yourself and the knife,I've seen too many strainers that catch life jacket straps and belts IE it could drown you! This also applies especially to neck knives,I always found it inviting disaster by tieing paracord around your neck and engaging in physical activities, you could easily be strangulated.Much better to lose your knife than your life, besides it would give you an excuse to buy another Busse! As far as a good camp knife, shoot yes! its a Busse!Just be sure to carry a BM or a SH when you go to gather wood!

Harrydog, I always bring my DWMS on trips in the BWCAW!

Although it's a bit thick,it can get the job done on fish, otherwise it seems to get used in the canoe and around camp more than my SH.
At home I use an IWB kydex sheath worn SOB, but on camping and canoeing trips I prefer to keep it in a Kenny Rowe leather pouch sheath. Whatever you decide, keep the sheath simple. A pouch style or hi-ride belt sheath will keep the knife with you at all times rather than having it strapped to a pack.

I also keep my Steel Heart close by for all wood gathering chores Smething you may also consider is splitting and finding dry fuel. Your saw will be adequate for gathering but you may find the need to split in order to get to drier wood. My Steel Heart takes care of both:)

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I knew I could count on the wealth of experience here in the Busse forum.
Who knows, if Jerry comes out with a new model that I really like, I might try to get one to use for the trip instead of the MS.
