what does everyone suggest as being the best way to clean your strop--i have a couple of nice custom ones from Mr2Blue and i figure it is time to clean them up--:D

Do not use either of those suggestions unless you want to refinish the surface of the strop.

For cleaning of normal compounds use WD-40 on a towel or a household cleaner called "awesome" works awesome :)

do you got a link to this awesome cleaner?

And how do we really know that's you since it's not a 3 am post?

Thanks for the post... and congrats on the job. I hope it doesn't interfere too much with your ocd and diamond obsession though... hopefully it just means both are better funded (now, have to hide this post from my wife ;)

yiterp: how do you like your mrblue strops? I have a jre stop bat (like it a lot), but I'm thinking about getting a new strop for some handamerica diamond spray.

Gojo/goop original formula hand cleaner. The white greasy stuff, not orange scented one with pumice. Rub a glob of it over the strop, let sit for a few seconds, and buff off with a paper towel. Voila, clean strop.

Try waterless hand cleaner from the auto parts store. It will remove all old compound without getting your strop oily or removing the tightly packed cellular surface of the leather.

I have used wd on my strop, Usually I just rub it down with a paper towel. Of course, it is a loaded strop with buffing compound.

The only thing you have to be careful of with any chemical cleaner is that if it releases the compound, it will also likely release the glue that is holding the leather to the wood.

I use hand cleaner when it gets really bad. Most of the time I just wipe off the residue with a paper towel.
