Best way to drop the point on my Queen Folder

Folks... I just picked up a Queen Mountain Man link back folder... It's the first Queen I've handled in many a year and I like it... The problem is that once in a while the point will stick up just a bit when the knife closes a bit slowly.... I've looked; but I can't see exactly where I should adjust the back spring or tang ta fix this little problem.... Any ideas or tried and true solutions?

Thanks in advance,
Leroy

Leroy,

Are you saying that the blade won't drop any lower because it's resting on the back lever, or that it's binding on something and will drop if pressed down?

Eric

Actually, after re-reading your post it seems that it would be the second case. If that's so, it's likely that:

1- the lockbar is binding between the liners at the blade tang or-

2- the lockbar is binding in the back where you press or-

3- the blade tang is binding between the liners when closed

A few things to check- first oil it good and see if that helps, then open the knife, and while holding the blade open (all the way), work the lock. Does it move quite freely or is it very sluggish?

- now open the knife about halfway, and while pressing down on the lockbar, open the blade the rest of the way. Does the blade go to the full open position easily with nothing grabbing it at the last moments?

- Now with the knife fully open, close the blade about halfway, then depress the lockbar and let the blade close (you're going to have to finesse your hand position a bit to keep you thumb out of the way!). Does the blade drop in freely without getting caught?

Listen to ea42. He works at one of the traditional knife manufacturers (not Queen). He is a professional.

ea... I'll check the lock bar like ya said.... I didn't think of it binding, but I marked perfect sense... More later...
Many thanks..

ea... I checked the lock bar and blade like ya recommended... It looked to be a combination of things... The lock bar needed a good cleaning; so I flushed it good, wiped it down, and lubed it with some good synthetic gun grease... I also took a good look at the blade pivot.. I think it's just a bit tight... It tends to "hang" a little bit for the last few degrees before closing (... I would guess 5 to 10 or so...); but it does close well when it snaps from the half open position... The blade and lock bar are fitted just so for an "exact" line up of the blade tip and end of the bolster... I think the pivot will probably wear in a bit and allow the knife to fully close as the blade is opened and closed with use over time... I ain't sure I'm ready to tackle adjusting the pivot ...

Again, thanks for the help... I see how to check 'me out now....
