Best way to mount a scope on an Ak style rifle

I should be clearer as I kind of want to mount something like a Bushnell Holo sight or an Eotech style sight on an AK and I have seen some that replace the handguard with some rails systems and I would think that this would be a good way to go instead of putting one on top of the receiver with the built in scope mount like the Romanian AK that I am looking at for about $570.

So any advice on what I could use to mount a scope or sight would be great, and I have found many options at Cheaperthandirt.com and a couple at Sportsmansguide.com.

If there is a good way to mount a scope or sight on the receiver and have it stay zeroed in then tell me about it.

Used a cheap replacement receiver cover w/mount for a Tasco ProPoint..mine has two(2) small bolts at the rear to lock cover down tight..works like a charm. As I recall <$20.

Than Krebs is certainly a way to go if you have the money and at some point if I do wind up buying the rifle and I do not find anything satisfactory for a sight mount then I may go with the Krebs. Also would the Krebs solution need any gunsmithing to the rifle.

any scope rings should work

larue makes good stuff too

Thank you Voodoo not quite the rifle I was looking at mounting a sight to but I am glad to know another brand of quality scope rings which I am sure that Larue makes excellent rings along with their other items and I have heard that they make exceptional rings for Aimpoint optics.

imho the larue irondot is the way to fly for optics on AK's, its simply the very best, & ya can co-witness the irons, it runs ~ $400 with the optic IIRC.

one of my AK's has the side rail and i have an older aimpoint mounted on a b-square mount which works pretty good, most of the russian/east bloc side rail mounts are also good depending on which one it is, some imho mount the optic too high, others are hard to put on/take off, and others dont hold zero when ya remove them, b-square does pretty good in all of the above imho.

i dont think any of the reciever mounts are any good, b-square makes a saddle type mount which is good but ya have to remove it for cleaning/etc which isnt a good thing, none of the other ones will hold zero imho.

ya can also get railed forends from several makers(imho ultimak is best) and they work pretty well but ya cant co-witness with the irons which i like to do and the ultimak forends are pretty expensive.

Thank you Mule that is a solution I will look into also so far that is kind of in the lead.
And does anyone know if you need to take this mount off if you want to take the receiver cover off.
I am talking about this mount here
http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/AKS006-6.html

yes its similar to the b-square and it must be removed to take the rec'r cover off, i like the b=square better, of course its 3 or 4 X as high too lol.

why?

the b-square is easier to remove with thumbstuds vs torx bolts, the b-square also holds zero really well, i have put mine on/taken it off a lot with very little change in zero, i have heard some of the cheaper mounts wont do that, it sucks to have to re-sight every time ya clean the rifle lol.

if i wanted to put optics on an AK that didnt have the side rails i would go with either the irondot (again the very best) or the ultimak rails, while the side rails are ok i still like the irondot or ultimak rails best even on a rifle with the rail, the optics are kinda high, off set a bit, and a pain to remove all the time, with the rails ya can add a lite too.

Yeah I was looking at the Ultimak's and they are nice but they are expensive but they seem to be great quality and I was thinking of going with the railed fore end and the Iron dot looks like a nice set up I am thinking that is the one that I might go with, I still have another month or so till I am ready to pick one up.

i had one of those on my maahdi for a while and while it worked ok it stuck the optic up kinda high, ya certainly cant co-witness with that kinda railed forend, of course some folks dont care about that, i do though.

the one i had like that did hold zero pretty well though which a lotta folks on AK47.net said it wouldnt, mine had 4 rails vs 2 though, and cost IIRC ~ $100, still cheaper than ultimak, ultimak is probably better though, if for no other reason its alloy vs FRN or whatever they make those out of.

i always wondered if it would hold up if i got the rifle really hot,
