Oh man, I can see this thread going downhill fast w/ that title........

But to answer your question, I used a 3M/sandpaper wheel in my cordless drill to polish away some of the decarb on my CE SAR. Just go slow and make sure you don't heat up the blade. Clamp down the handle to keep it from moving and make sure you stay away from the edge.

If your stains are actually a patina from food acids or other "fluids", then I can't tell you if the wheel will work or not. But hey, give it a try. It'll only cost a few bucks.

thanks Bro

Will do...

:)

you could just try some high grit sandpaper over a mousepad or strop. 800+ grit would probably work well. if you still have that layer of decarb then you may want to go lower.

i would say leave it on!
but if you want to get rid of it i would say as the other guys, 800+ sandbaper then finnish it with tooth paste and a scotch brite.

I would say leave it, shows character.

Other than that I think you have to remove the stained metal.

Food patina - LEAVE IT ON! It shows you actually USE your Busse. :)

I love the patina on my NICK, BADs and Culties. I'm danged proud of it, actually.

Without pics this thread is...:p:p:p

So how about it, lets see how much character your Busse actually has!

Try some "Super Premium Polishing Paste". I have never tried to remove a patina, but the stuff is incredible when it comes to rust. It will probably be even better for patina removal.

That really doesn't look bad at all, just looks like a well used blade.

Sarsquatch isn't really a looker to begin with, I say just keep using it and not worry about the appearance!

it was sold to me unused--

I used 400 grit--and got it off

Thanks for the advice

The condition of the knife in the picture is how you received it?

Might not have been used but it sure looks like it's been sharpened. Mousepad/fine grit sandpaper by the looks of it. I could be wrong though.

Yes--that is the sellers photo before I got it.

Scotch Brite and WD40 or sandpaper.

A thin layer of Breakfree CLP protects the knife from patina or rust.

camilia oil will also protect it, and it's foodsafe.
Yes the only way to remove patina is to remove metal.

I'm tempted to sand down my SARQ's just to keep the rust down and smooth out some of the INFI-bumps. Maybe polish up the spine a bit, too. Looking at the rust on it reminds me of the silly knife that Ramboob made in Rambo 4 or the one that Benicio del Torro made in that movie where he's the killer-dude with Tommy Lee Jones. Not that that's good or bad, just reminds me of it. I think a bit less toothy is more my style, tho.

I spent about 5 minutes /side hand sanding it down with 400grit(did not have any 800)

Not perfect(nor do I want it that way)

Then I polished it up again--much better
