OK, so I have never owned a chisel ground blade...... until now. Ho do I best sharpen my bk-3? I don't want to screw up the edge by doing it wrong. Also, how to sharpen the wire cutter?

Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Gracias!

What do you use for sharpening? I assume that you have something like a Sharpmaker to sharpen the serrations. In this case just make more strokes on the ground side of the blade and just a few passes on the plain side. The rods might also work for the wire cutter, but I don't know how this thing exactly looks (closeup) so I hope others can chime in on this on.

Wire cutter is a tricky fella. 5/32 Chainsaw file, $3 at Lowe's/Home Depot/Ace. Comes in 2 abrasive sizes, coarse and fine. Use both.

Serration sharpening???? I haven't even got that fay yet. Actually they're pretty sharp for now. Thanks for the suggstion on the straight edge. Easier to hand sharpen than with a Lansky kit I take it?

Hey I don't know about down there, but up here at my local Ace Hardware they sent out coupons to have a knife professionally sharpened for $1. I don't know if it is limited to kitchen knives and scissors, but I might go ask 'em to see what they can do. I have some old knives that I don't want to take the time on 'em so if someone else will do it for $1 I'm all over it.

Sometimes you get what you pay for, and I've seen many "SHARPENERS" that charge money and just grind the hell out of your knife.
You are talking about the gut hook/seat belt cutter on the BK3? Some leather straps pulled through there could strop it a bit, add some of the strop compound, or other polishing compound to the leather. Keep the angle, don't round off the edge.
If it's real dull, I don't know. You might need the right file.

Well, that notch on the BK3 wasn't intended as a gut hook or seat belt cutter. It's more for cutting wire or nibbling metal and doesn't come from the factory with a sharp edge.

I used a round file to put a bit of an edge on the one I just sent to the OP, but that was just for kicks. For the main edge, I just used a diamond rod to keep it sharp enough for chopping vines and small branches. I never tried to get it "razor sharp" since my uses for the BK3 didn't require such an edge.
