I am hoping to learn of a different and better way to sharpen this particular knife. I have always had trouble trying to sharpen my other knives that have this same convex thing goin on with the blades. I hope sandpaper on a mouse pad is not the only way.
Buying good knives is one thing(easy)
Sharpening and taking care of them is another.
Ihave no problem admitting I need much help with this:confused:

if you use stones, it will sharpen but you will probably remove the convex edge. if that matters to you.

otherwise a mousepad and paper is likely the best way. i use that method on several of mine and its actually very easy.

or maybe try a professional cutlery sharpener.

The above FAQ is probably the best advice for sharpeners, since it's easy to understand.

If you're really hung up about convex edges, there are other guides, such as the 'mouse pad' guides.

The simple method used by many:
- Maintain a chosen honing angle until you've developed a burr on one bevel.
- Do the same for the other bevel.
- Slightly increase the honing angle and hone lightly on both sides until the burr is removed.

The edge produced by this method is actually a semi-convex edge - due to the final micro-bevel created in the burr-removal process.

Hope this helps!

Hey 10 Dragons, congrats on your NL4! From KF I got this tutorial: http://www.knifeforums.com/forums/showtopic.php?tid/751826/ . For me, it has been most helpful. As far as I know, all Fallkniven have a convex edge (correct me if I'm wrong!). Since the edge is a part of the initial concept of the knife, I would want to keep it the way it came in the first place. Anyway, that's me. I hope the link works and you can get your NL4 shaving again!
