What is the best way to sharpen a Ronin?

Just got mine recently and the blade is not perfectly straight across. The edge on the blade towards the tip is curved in slightly on both sides. Should I try to fix it or ship it back for replacement/repair? I have emailed the company and am awaiting a response, but if it's an easy fix, I do not want to put them out.

Thanks.

I've never seen a 'perfect' grind on a production knife. There's usually some slight problem such as uneven bevel grind, incomplete edge grind at base of blade, etc.

My Ronin was about as close to perfect as I've seen - but the edge grind was very slightly 'hooked' toward the tip. You have to look closely to even spot it. It sounds like yours is too.

I think the problem is probably due to the flexure of the tip when the edge bevel is ground. I think an exchange of your Ronin for another will probably net you another Ronin with the same characteristic.

I tried using a Spyderco medium benchstone, but it's difficult to remedy due to the tip flexing away from the stone. The best stone I've found for tip work is the little Spyderco DoubleStuff stone - and a great deal of patience.

Light-pressure strokes are required, due to tip-flexure, thus patience is required for the slow rate of VG-10 metal removal.

Hope this helps, and I hope you enjoy your Ronin as well as I do mine.
