I just rx'd my CQC-14 in the mail today and it rocks.. Its amazingly sharp.. What do most of you guys use to keep these things up to snuff?? Since they are pretty much only sharpened on one side of the bevel, are most of you guys that actually use these things keeping it that way?? Is anyone using a sharpmaker, but just using one side?? EE reccomends stropping it on a piece if cardboard, is that how everyone is doing it?

The sharpmaker will do just fine.
I use a small ceramic and a strop most of the time, just to keep it sharp.
If I do have to put an edge on the knife I would use the sharpmaker or a good stone, then back to a ceramic rod (or the ceramics on the sharpmaker if thats what i was using) and a strop to finish.
I also do keep the original single bevel edge on the knives. Its no harder to maintain than a normal 2 bevel edge.

For stroping, leather with something like diamond cutting paste or ali. oxide is the best. Cardboard will do a fair job as well but its just not the same.
I have a friend who sometimes uses toothpaste and card to strop his knives on, it seems to work quite well and gives a nice minty fresh edge :D

ya should go to EKI's web site and see the tutorial if ya havent already.

on mine i prefer to use a norton india stone (vs a SM) and a gerber steel, or the cardboard.

as far as the steelingh/stropping ya need to get the blade almost flat on the steel or strop if ya put some masking tape on the blade ya wont scuff it.

I put a normal vee edge on my Commander, handier as it's a vee grind blade. After reprofiling with sandpaper on a cardboard cylinder I stropped on a diamond "steel" and now use a sharpmaker as for other knives. My Bullnose Commander Kerambit (Karambit) I strop on leather with gren compound crayoned on.

I use a leather strop and a ceramic rod. It takes a grand total of about 3 minutes for general maintenance.
