hey guys i have a bunch of busses and a sebenza that i really want to give wicked edges to that are durable. I have a lansky but i really want to upgrade to a really nice sharpener or a sander if thats what yall think. I would really apprieciate any recommendations for sharpeners and sanders. Or strops for that matter. Anything would help. Thnks guys

Im a pretty big noob myself but i do know not to use a sander/grinder unless ur fairly experience with knife making or using one for knives.

If you want a nice sharpener for those knives you mentioned, a sharpmaker is always a good place to start.
Strops you can easily make with some leather(i have leather belt glued on a 2 x .5), and that you can load up with some CrO or any kind of buffing compound.

For me I 20-degree my 551 on the sharpmaker and strop it after and has that wicked edge yet still durable.

If im not mistaken, Chris Reeve actually recommends the use of a sharpmaker if you have to sharpen the knife without their service.

Personally I think people spend way too much time worrying about angles and the right equipment. Will your knife cut what you need it to? If so then it is sharp enough. If you try to get it too sharp, your edge will last about 5 minutes. Get it sharp enough for your everyday tasks and it will last much longer.

If you really get into it, the Edgepro is the only way to go.

The EdgePro is a great tool. The best of the sharpening systems. It has a short learning curve and you can get excellent results on your first attempt.

I have recently been learning free hand sharpening using glass stones, giving my EdgePro a rest. I am amazed how quick the learning curve is with free hand sharpening once you have some of the basics under your belt. I think I can get edges that are as sharp or sharper using the glass stones but I have also learned to use a leather strop loaded with CrO to refine my edges.

Either way works well. I won't sell off my EdgePro anytime soon but I love the convenience of quick and easy set up and no soaking with the glass stones. Makes touch ups a breeze.

yep i just went out and bought 3 stones. a natural arkansas medium and 2 diamonds. One yellow one orange. and i brought back my old free hand skills and found out that it comes back quick and is easy to do. i also got a extremly sharp edge on my busse HR. Thanks guys for the input.
