Best way to ship knife

I want to ship a knife cross country and from your experiences, which way or ways do you recommend? I can think the choices come down to cost, usps or ups or other, insurance (y or n), tracking (that's probably included), receipt signature (needed or not).
What do you suggest?

USPS priority mail insured. Two days to anywhere in the CONUS, reliable, inexpensive, done.

I always use USPS Priority. Insurance for me depends on what the knife is worth, personally I only take out insurance if the knife is worth more than $200 but that just depends on how much cost you can eat if the knife gets lost by the USPS and you need to give a refund to the buyer. I personally believe it is the sellers/shippers responsibility if the item gets lost. Tracking comes with it, and I normally use the small flat rate boxes but have also used the envelopes on occasion. I would ask the buyer if they want "signature confirmation" as this can be a hassle. For a very expensive knife it is a good idea. I have been lucky and have never had a package I have shipped get lost by USPS. I have had a couple get lost on their way to me though, including one right now that is lost in the ether...

I'm shipping my knife off to get some work done on it. I'm trusting that responsibility be taken when and if something goes wrong and want to make sure I cover the bases from my side. That's why I seek advice of you whom have had no problems and those of you who may have been burned.

I use two day propriety mail, it comes with $100 insurance and tracking. My knives are usually packages in small flat rate boxes, bubble wrapped, and surrounded by rolled up news paper until I can shake the box without any rattle what so ever.

I've always used USPS with the priority small box with tracking and signature confirmation. With those two things you almost can't go wrong because you and the buyer can keep track of where the knife is and the only way the knife is released is if it was signed for by somebody.

If the knife is over $400 I get insurance with it too, and that will include a signature confirmation.

The best way to ship a knife?

I thought it was $50 insurance included?

I use the priority flat rate boxes from USPS almost exclusively, adding insurance if I'm not willing to lose whatever the knife costs past $50. Be sure to use tape! I recieved an empty box once because it wasn't taped and the glue on the flap didn't hold.

Don't end up like I did. Put the knife bubble wrap envelope with no insurance and it got lost.
I wish I would have asked first like you did.

Thank you all. I'm on the way to the post office. If I remember, when I get my knife returned, I'll post a pic. I'd like to give the artisan credit for a great job (that's what I'm anticipating).
If a moderator reads this or someone else knows...where would I go to give credit and post pict?
