I have an old ontario Rtak that still has the powdery coating on it. I kind of have an urge to stip it and force a patina to keep it from rusting faster. Ive seen it done but just which way would be the easiest with minimal tools to strip it. I don't have anything fancy but i do have a dremel tool and bits. What do yall think. Paint remover ?

There are many with more knowledge than me on this subject, but I have read where people have used paint remover for the powder coat removal. To force the patina, use an acidic product like mustard, vinegar, ketchup, potatoes, just to name a few choices.

Klean Strip available at Wally world will take that coating clean off in no time flat.

Force a patina with Ferric Acid available at any Radio Shack. Its used to etch circuit boards, and leaves a very nice finish. 1 part acid, 3 parts water. (wear gloves)

Pyro, I used this abrasive wheel on my Dremel and it made very short work on the Izula coating......no scratches either.

Note...USE your knife, patina will come;)

thanks, I'm gonna give it a try over the weekend and have pictures up as soon as i get it done. Its my first modification so I'm kinda excited. Sounds so fun. What do yall think, should I leave the original micarta handles on or cord wrap it.
