First time poster here.

I have had the pleasure from learning so much from all the experience folks here. And for that I am thankful to all.

My question to you guys, have you come across a compact or ingenius way of preparing your 550 cord for your PSK?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome!!

There is a way to double up a peice called a daisy-chain, and it won't get tangled. They are used by some boaters for deploying anchor lines.

Other ways are the various knots, like on lanyards, which simply weave the cord so that it reduces a longer length into a shorter stowable compact piece.

For short pieces, like 10 feet you can wind it around a flashlight, or even around your knife sheath or handle.

Good question!

I see pictures of 550 cord wrapped nice and neat, but I'm all thumbs and can't quite get it. What's the proper way?

Being kinda thick, pictures would be great!:D

Cheers!

I keep my 550 cord in a small stuff sack meant for clothing etc. I use a sack made by Granite Gear and it has a loop on the bottom of the bag. I just made a bowline kow on the end through the loop and then just shove it in like a throw bag for water rescue and keep the other end poked out the top. That way I can use it a a prerigged throw bag for a emergency rescue while canoing or as a throw rope for a bear bag. Works slick.

This is a homemade "duck call" necklace out of 550...about 25' braided into a necklace

50' looks like a rats nest, but can easily be deployed over 35' with out ANY snags or tangles.

Ingenius!

That is exactly what I was looking for.

Guys, Thanks much for the replies!

Is it manly to learn how to braid? Just kidding around.

Looks like I'll be searching for the best braid technique.

I buy orange paracord in 100' hanks from countycomm.com. I then cut each 100' hank into six 16+' lengths (100/6=16.67). These are wrapped around my palm and wrapped & tied off in the middle to make six very neat- very useful sized - hanks of cord. I try to carry at least 8 hanks of 16+' cord in my bag.
