How do these two stack up against one another? I'm especially interested to hear from people who have handled both of the knives. (Please don't threadjack, e.g., "I prefer my PM2.")

Bestech ALL the way. Much better steel, fit and finish, action. They’re a Chinese manufacturer producing awesome knives for the money. CRKT have some sweet designs (the Pilar included) but in my experience have a lot of QC issues. And I mean a LOT. Especially compared with similarly priced Chinese knives like Bestech, Ruike and Real Steel.

I prefer my PM2.

Kidding! That Bestech looks nice! I may have to check one out myself.

I'm going to break my own rule because I inadvertently left out a relevant knife -- even more relevant than the Hornet, perhaps, in this discussion. CRKT Pilar in S35VN vs. Bestech Goblin (in S35VN): thoughts? This seems to be the matchup I was looking for, since they are both in the same steel.

Goblin. The F&F will be WAY better than the CRKT. The grind on the Goblin is also quite nice. I heard they’re starting to produce it without the knife’s name on the blade. Which is great IMO.

While I find the Pilar slightly better looking, that’s all it has going for it here. The Bestech is titanium (with different show side scales), Pilar is SS. Bestech is on ceramic bearings, Pilar (even on the S35VN model), is on Teflon washers. And look at the machining that Bestech put on the scales of this knife. It’s very, very well done.

All that said, the S35VN Pilar costs close to $90 less than the Bestech. And it’s a damn good looking knife. Plus now they’re offering all of those aftermarket scales on BHQ. Hilariously, they cost more than the base model 8cr13mov models!

Bestech is way better. Crkt are bottom of the barrel no matter the choice of steel.

Sorry that I cannot relate experiences with the Pilar but I do own the Hornet. It's very well made and a solid folder. I am not a hard user but this knife seems to be built to handle heavier duties. It's a real bargain as well.

Well it looks like all the CRKT haters have had their say! I've never handled a Bestech so I can't say much about them, but I do own several CRKT's and their fit and finish is just fine. Don't be dissuaded by what the others have said. If you search this forum, you'll see the overwhelming majority of complaints about CRKT revolve around the quality of the materials they use (primarily regarding blade steels), but rarely their fit and finish. On the other hand, they are praised for many of their designs and collaborations with top designers.

In short, best to try out each of the knives yourself and make your own decision.
