Bet This Guy Changes Belts Faster Than You

Yes. I own one. This was the first small belt grinder I ever owned and I still use it. The grinder is much more versatile than the video shows because Chipping Away does not make the machine. What they are selling is a stripped down version of a Viel S5. Go to vieltools.com and check it out there. The site is in French by default, but you can click on the English link to fix that. The best thing about this machine as opposed to other cheaper belt sanders are the attachments that fit the machine. Chipping away sells the machine with a the motor wired to run clockwise. Viel sells their machine wired to run counter clockwise. I custom wired mine with a reverse switch so I could run the belt both directions. I like to sharpen with the belt running towards the edge of the tool and hone with the belt trailing the edge. The switch keeps me from having to change the sharpening position of the tool. If you have any specific questions about the machine or the attachments, feel free to ask.

Great info, thanks. Looks like the Viel machine is a lot cheaper too, though I imagine shipping from France is a bear.

Fabulous. I've been looking a long time for something like this, and all I ever see is Kalamazoo, Grizzly, Harbor Freight, Sears, etc. For someone who only wants to sharpen, not grind, this looks perfect.

This is the same machine Lee valley sells, except is much more expensive.

Guy has the motor running the wrong way in the video. You want sparks going to the floor, not flying up in the air.

Or maybe you dont.
