I have heard Gransfors Bruks are very good axes. I want something to replace my large all metal Estwing. You dont have to worry about breaking the handle but it wont hold an edge(axe) worth a you know what. I want one about the same size or a little bigger. Would the Gransfors Bruks Scandinavian Forest Axe be about right? Any other suggestions for a good moderately priced axe?

It would be a camp axe. To go in the camper. Splitting wood for campfire. We usually buy bundled wood at a store. It can be anything from soft to hard, knotty, dry, to moist. Sometimes I find cut wood that the Estwing cant begin to handle. I do not need a hatchet. I have a BK+T BK9 for making kindling. Mabey I need the one of the larger GB. What is it called,American Felling Axe or something.

what do you mean. i have looked at them(pictures). am sure theres not somewhere here you could hold it in your hands

I'm very happy with my Fiskars chopping axe.
It is also the sharpest-out-of-the-package axe that I have ever seen.

Good luck,
Allen.

23.5" and head is 2 lbs.

It cost me about $20.00 at the local hardware store.
