Better Benchmade Clip?

I just got a 940-1 and while I am overall quite impressed with the knife itself, I will admit that the clip is the weak point for me. The shiny black, constantly covered with fingerprints, scratches if you look at it wrong clip is a disappointment. So I'm looking for a replacement. Where should I look? I've seen the CF clips and I like them, but I'm not sure if that would be CF overload on such a small knife. Maybe a nice Ti clip? I dunno, that's where you guys come in.

I really love Benchmades Parkerized clips, nonreflective and subdued black clips are tough and have just the right grip. Both standard and split arrow styles work really well for me. I've never tried the CF clips, but a few folks have stated they have no real retention.

^ Agreed. The standard BM black oxide clips are my favorite. They wear very well over time. BM will likely send you one for free if you call their CS dept and let them know that you've got one of the dreaded painted clips. :)

I like the titanium clips from USAknifemaker. Fits the standard three hole clips.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll check into getting one of the oxide clips. Maybe I'll pick up something else, or not, I'll have to see what strikes my fancy.

I like the look of the "Benchmade" clip after I bead blast them.

I concur. :)

A few of us in the Benchmade forum have put the black split arrow clip on our 940-1's.

I just got one of those cf clips that fits bm 3 hole pattern and it is has poor at best retention. You could easily lose your knife relying on it. The Ti ones they have are much better and you can grind it to a custom shape if you like.

I personally have no issue with BM clips, scratches are a part of using the knife, but we all have different opinions of what is exceptable, or whether we care about scratches or not...
retention is always my biggest thing, and BM clips are generally very good.

A Ti clip is a great way to go, I believe there is someone on this forum that makes them.
I will post a link if I am correct about that.

Otherwise, there is a very popular auction site that has them, the trick is to find a seller who has good fit and finish clips that have good retention, and not some POS that has no retention and seems like it was not even designed for your knife (it probably wasn't)

I never quite understood why Benchmade continues to put those cheaply painted clips on their knives. It chips and rubs off so fast they might as well just left the clip silver. The black oxide coating they do isn't exactly great either but least doesn't chip...

I tried out both silver and black contego style deep carry clips, and ive got the black one on right now. Its painted and the one I have already is scratched, but the thought to acid wash a silver one had crossed my mind. Ill take a picture of it when Ive got some time.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I've been looking at the clips on usaknifemaker but all the ones I like are out of stock, of course.

I have a friend that was nice enough to bead blast an 810 clip for me.I feel it looks and rides better.

I modified a STR lowrider clip for a para 2 to fit my newly acquired "beater knife". Looks much better than the black speared clip.

I would suggest either an aftermarket titanium clip, a stainless split arrow BM clip, or a black oxide standard or split arrow BM clip. Also, you can take acetone to a painted clip and turn it into a matte stainless finish.

I like the CF look like others, but they are not rigid enough to give a strong retention to the pocket and I find the knife to be unacceptably too easy to remove from the pocket.
