Better Edge Retention O1 vs A2

The same maker, same model, same grind, same edge angle, and same hardness (60 HRC) which steel would hold its edge better?

I tried Google but didn't have any luck when it came to knives.

All things being equal, you should see A2 give you better edge retention, while still being just as tough as O1. A2 will also provide a significant increase in corrosion resistance over O1 as well. I've seen O1 rust just looking at it, let alone coming in contact with moisture. That hasn't been my experience with A2. Obviously, it will patina and spot, just not nearly as readily as O1. Between the two, I would choose A2 every time.

i highly doubt you would notice any difference in performance among the two of them. only difference is that A2 would be less likely to rust as quickly.

I have knifes built up in 01 and Adam is right, it will stain easily. Plus, I've noticed it imparts a foul odor to items cut with it. It takes a nice fine edge.
I'd put my money on A2. It doesn't stain as easily. The difference in edge retention may be slight but there are other benefits. DM

Good question, I have been wondering more about a2 too, I have a lot of 01 steel, sharpens nicely. Got a BHK cavallo in a2, wondering how it will do.
