Better Fire Steel holder design?

The loop on my Benchmade sheath holds an army size fire steel, however after using it's no longer snug. It wants to jump out so now I need a leather strap through the top hole of the firesteel tied around the leather loop behind the protruding end of the fire steel. This is messy and will catch on things.

Is there a simple better way? If not I may as well cut the loop off and put the fire steel in my pocket!

Nope, that's the best way to secure it. You could also use a heavy rubber band through the fire steel hole the down around the exposed tip in the same fashion,

Glue a thin strip of leather inside the loop to decrease the internal diameter ?

Pretty much this. Replace the leather strap with a piece of shock cord and just loop over the end. If you don't want anything tied to the FS, you might try slipping a piece of tubing (heat shrink tubing or such) over the rod.

Thanks, I thought about rubber band to remove the knot but they perish quickly, and look naff.
The stretch chord is good but adds the knot back in unless I whip the ends parallel and use that to pull the loop down to release the steel.
Actually I like that idea!
