Michael Yon is an awesome reporter who has been giving raw reports from Iraq and Afghanistan for years, staying embedded long after the celebrity reporters have lost interest. He just posted this report from training with the Gurkhas in Borneo for their upcoming deployment. I would expect periodic updates in the future as well. If you hit "next" you will see his older reports, which for the past few weeks have been other training in Borneo, which also has some Gurkha content.

Now THAT'S a story worth reading.

This reminds me: there's a book at the library that I'll be going to today, in which Michael Palin makes trip through Nepal and sees a Gurkha recruiting session. Maybe I'll have another look, and see if I can pass it along.
 
Thank you mPisi for your link and also to Nicholas for the link to Michael Pallin's writings ...it has been years since I watched "Himalaya" and reading the story again reminds me that over 13,000 Nepali people died during the fight with the Maoists.

Considering recent political developments in Nepal I hope the things do not revert to as they were just a few years ago. :(
