Better Heat treat, sharper edge

The heat treat on my esse 6 has allowed me to get scandi ground sharpness and not sacrifice survival knife srtength. I have been slowly thinning out my edge getting it sharper and sharper and have ended up settling on 15 degrees per side without edge roll under my normal use including batoning. It carves like a scandi ground bushcraft knife and holds an edge surprisingly well. Has anyone else gone thinner on their esse knives and found similar results?

I had the shoulders on my 5 knocked way back and fully convexed it. It is a wicked cutter now!

Yeah you can do that for a while but you trade off the strength of the edge when you do it. As long as you aren't doing really hard work or sharp impact blows with the knife you will probably be ok. I used to thin out the edges on my carving tools (wood) a lot to get sharper and sharper egdes but one wrong move and the edge chipped because the thinner edges had little strenght against stresses in a lateral direction to the edge. Be careful. Mike

Note taken. I do just normal woods bushcraft batoning, carving, and the edge has held up amazing and I now use much less energy putting things together, but you are right there is a point where the trade off of toughness is not worth the extra sharpness. I have found a perfect medium. I do not grind with machines but do everything by hand with diamond stones. I just feel that with a lesser heat treat I would not be able to go this thin and still have a tough enough edge for serious work.
