I am trying to decide on which would be better to carry camping/hiking for light to medium tasks (No heavy chopping required) a Busse Batac or a Chris Reeve Mark VI? The Batac seems stronger and the Mark VI seems like a better slicer and better for intricate work. Any opinions?

They are both Top knives. With Busse, you get infi! Post what you decide to get.

I'm not fond of painted Busses. The stuff rubs off relatively easily, like when cutting cardboard. You also may not like what you find under the paint.
If you want a Busse I recommend a non-painted BA. The BA is a nice size. The large choil lets you choke up for fine work.

Why not go with the CR Mountaineer? Not having the upper guard should make cutting things around camp a little easier.

I really like the CRK Aviator. I've been thinking about picking one up. I would think that the saw back would come in handy in a camp knife.

How about a Bark River Mini Northstar. Great all around bush craft knife. i have one with ram's horn handle.

Well I found a great deal on a Mark VI and I picked it up, the same day I found a deal on a snakeskin BATAC so I got that too. I am going to use them along with a Bravo-1 on an upcoming 3 day trip. Luckily this is more of a truck camping trip so I can pack all three and put them through thier paces. Thanks for the responses.

I know I'm late, but check out Bark River's Snowy River. A very light knife (good for hiking), but very durable.
