I've got a couple of things going on here, I built a hog hunting knife, and got some exciting things are happening with my 1911 Combat Survivor.
It became obvious to me that the things that make a really good fighting knife also make a good hog knife. So when a friend of mine asked for a hog knife for and up-coming hunt, this is what I built. I regret that I did not have time for professional pictures, the hunt is too close.
The blade, forged of 5160, 11 inches long, it has differential heat treating and a distal taper.
The handle, 5 inches long not counting the finial, is elk antler.
The fittings are stainless and the hog finial was made by a German jeweler/knife maker.
I found it at a knife show some time ago. I put the finial on for fun so my buddy will have a handy reference on the hunt so he will know what he is supposed to stab. It threads out easily and can be replaced with a normal finial if he decides he just wants a fighter.
Please make comments on it as a fighter or a hog knife, your choice.
Also, I finally got the patent on my 1911 knife and I made some improvements. Here's a looks at it.
It's still done a lot by hand but it is admittedly getting closer to the mid-tech. side so I wrote about it in another forum. Here's the link http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1041858-1911-Combat-Survivor-Field-Test
Thanks for looking, Mark
