I've got a couple of things going on here, I built a hog hunting knife, and got some exciting things are happening with my 1911 Combat Survivor.

It became obvious to me that the things that make a really good fighting knife also make a good hog knife. So when a friend of mine asked for a hog knife for and up-coming hunt, this is what I built. I regret that I did not have time for professional pictures, the hunt is too close.

The blade, forged of 5160, 11 inches long, it has differential heat treating and a distal taper.
The handle, 5 inches long not counting the finial, is elk antler.
The fittings are stainless and the hog finial was made by a German jeweler/knife maker.

I found it at a knife show some time ago. I put the finial on for fun so my buddy will have a handy reference on the hunt so he will know what he is supposed to stab. It threads out easily and can be replaced with a normal finial if he decides he just wants a fighter.

Please make comments on it as a fighter or a hog knife, your choice.

Also, I finally got the patent on my 1911 knife and I made some improvements. Here's a looks at it.

It's still done a lot by hand but it is admittedly getting closer to the mid-tech. side so I wrote about it in another forum. Here's the link http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1041858-1911-Combat-Survivor-Field-Test

Thanks for looking, Mark

Well I think your knife making skills greatly out weigh your photography skills! Lol! Thats about all I can see from here. It does look pretty good, and should do the job perfectly.

hey Mark
I,m liking the 1911 knife. I agree the photos could be better. Please remove the background so The knives aren't competing with it.
Hey congrats on the cool picture of one of your in the new blade Magazine.

Great looking bowie.

I think the hog final is a great idea. Some clearer shots would bring me back for seconds.

The idea for the 1911 knife is brilliant. I can see a lot of people liking that one! Hopefully the mag release has a very tough spring! I can just see me dropping all my handle stash goodies out on the ground every time I try to deploy it!

The hog knife looks like it will do the job Mark, and i'm liking the 1911 concept very much.

Hey Mark, The hog knife looks like it should work well. The finial should help to tell the differance between the dog and hog.

Hi Bruce, thanks for the props and the suggestion, I kind of knew it but I was too lazy to take new pictures, this time I set up the photo booth and did what you suggested.

I haven't seen the new Blade yet, I always get mine about a week after you guys do. Which Knife did they use? The people at Blade have always been good to me, I owe them much thanks.

Talk to you later, thanks.

I am using Wilson Combat mag releases and springs, they are pretty stiff, should be good. How do you like the pig? Thanks Mark

Mark,
Its on page 36 in the May edition. Its your #101202 knife and its a story by Mike Haskew called "Precise Consistent And Clean" about proper fit and finish. Nice write up using yours as the example of proper guard-blade fit.

Man, thats a great invention. Congrats on the 1911 Survival Knife. That should be a good seller.

Thanks Bruce, I will have to look for it. I usually get a "Bump" (so to speak) in business when they put something in there, so that will be good. Thanks for the props, Talk to you again soon, Mark
