I started collecting Fixed Blades (esp Randalls) about 6 months ago and have purchased a few through ebay which has worked out fine. I found out that I can also place an Order for a Randall directly through Nordic Knives and pay the exact Retail price (but the wait is approx 4 months for delivery). I was wondering about the Prices at Knifeshows in general. I would think that the Prices for most Semi-current / New items would generally be lower than typical Retail because Dealers are there to Sell. Is that accurate? Also, would the upcoming Show this June in Atlanta be a good one to visit if you're looking for Randalls or will it be Custom Makers only?

Thanks for the replies.

The Atlanta BLADE show is the Greatest! If you have an interest in any knife, it is the place to be. There are a lot of manufactured and customs, I would say you should be able to find quite a few Randals for sale there. Along with sooo many other knives! you will need all three days. If you decide to go let me know I have an extra VIP pass I can send your way. Lets you in early, and free to boot!!! There is your first discount on your Randal! Price wise I don't know if it would be lower but there would be no wait, you get to see what you are buying, no shipping and handling, and a great knife vacation! cant' lose!

I suppose there is some competitive pressure at a knife show, but the price on my knives is the same at a show or on my website or if you call and order one. It probably matters less with customs than with factory knives where there are always dealers willing to shave a few bucks off the price.

The only bargains in customs might come at the end of the show when you're face with packing up that big bowie or letting the guy have it for $50 less than the tag says. If you've had a good show, you take it home and use it at the next show. If not, you have to cover expenses and maybe let it go. By that time, though, the best knives that were on your table are gone.

Hi Audra! I look forward to seeing you here in Atlanta.

I have found that at the Canadian Knifemakers' Guild show in Toronto sometimes there are better prices to be had, but not always.

I have found Randall's to be overpriced at knife shows and have purchased mine in good retail or private deals. Randall prices were very high at Eugene, OR. However, custom prices were good on Saturday and excellent on Sunday. I ran into several deals on Sunday, where as Jerry noted, the makers would rather sell a blade for substantially less than take it home.
