I work at a knife shop. In my opinion... now im no business genius, but i believe that the 50/50 edge sells the best because most people dont understand its limitations and because of the fact that yes... most stores sell 50 - 75% 50/50. Most of the time, people dont question the serrations on the knife. I think they assume that thats how they come and thus make their decisions based on other features. Ive found that when i explain to a person that plain edge will be easier to sharpen and be less time consuming than serrations, they usually say theyd like the plain edge. I think serrations have their place.... and on certain knives. but i think that the preference for serrated edges or 50/50 edges has been fabricated based on novelty and hype and less on actual utility use and the general publics need for such a feature... are people suddenly cutting more rope, seatbelts, and cardboard than they did 50 years ago? most likely not.... again, im not a business man and i could be dead wrong... im willing to admit that... but thats my observation
