Better steel? S30V vs. D2

Both are excellent, but I find S30V (BM Mini-Rukus) easier to sharpen than D2 (BM 710, Dozier K1). I would suspect that S30V is a little more corrosion-resistant.

Assuming similar hardness, S30V is better in every aspect of performance. But it's really not a big enough difference to choose one knife over another, probably not enough to even notice the majority of the time.
I suggest you buy the knife you want, not a steel or a brand name.

Choice of steel depends on what you want to use the knife for.

There usually isn't a "best" of anything, always depends on the application.

I find that D2 has more personality and makes a better companion.

How does your companionship with D2 affect its performance in cutting applications?

I prefer S30V to D2 for the corrosion resistance.

The difference between the two is small enough that it's not a matter of great importance. Even though I believe s30v is the better steel my latest purchase (pending) is one with a d2 edge just because I like the design.

D2 will never take a mirroed edge like s30v its not in the same league in terms of corosion resistance.
S30v is the better knife steel IMO.

I like S30V in some folders that I have but I doubt if very many S30V knives will outperform a Walter Brend fixed blade knife made of D2. Heat treat and tempering are very important.
