Better than Lego

Recently i salvaged an old cardboard box which was about to be thrown away, only to discover that it was filled with many new and old Buck knife parts.
Insides were several handle parts of the 186 model without blades, 2 completely new black bladed 560 models and about 20 new black blades for the model 560 without handle parts.
Also many other parts and various kinds of original screws, stainless and bronze bushings, and a single new blade for a model 532.

I have used some of the parts to reconstruct a few complete 186 models with 560 blades, which also seem to fit.
Fortunately the black coating can easily be scratched off, which you can see on one of the knives.
I like standard blades better, so the other i have yet to finish.

Next to the knives in the picture i have 3 to 4 incomplete 186 models, they are missing the rocker and the titanium belt clip.

I feel this is better than Lego, :D

What do you think ?

Very nice, kwackster! If you have any more of those boxes to throw out, throw one my way. :)

Wow Kwackster,

What a find!!!! You are truely a very lucky man. I could only wish to find a box of old Buck knife parts that could be used to build some hard to find Buck's like the 186:thumbup: Thanks for sharing.

I was all set to argue your point. Because, there's not much better than Legos. My kids will inherit my collection.

...But I think you may have some very close runners up! :D

Kwackster -

Here's a pic of the 186 disassembled. The 560/110 blade actually fits differently than the 186.

Here's the 560/110 (110 pictured; 560 similar).

Wherein lies the difference between the original 186 blades and the 560 ones ?
As far as i can see everything seems to work correctly,

Thanks Trax, your photos inspired me to tear apart one of my older 110s. It didn't come apart easily.

OK. Take a look at the 186 rockerbar pivot hole - it's bigger because the bushing slip fits inside it. Same with the blade. In the 186, the liners clamp the two bushings (and the rear spacer) so they don't move; the blade and rockerbar rotate around them. In the 560/110, the blade has the bushing pressed in, and the blade w/bushing rotates around the pin. (The 560/110 rockerbar has no bushing; it just rotates around its pin).

If your blade bushing is a loose fit in the blade, it is ideal for the 186. ;)

It's probably not all that important what is pressed and what is loose. As long as it works. :D
