I usually like to share a knife pic with my fellow forum members. This time it's different!! This is a follow up to my post a while back where I mentioned using PAM to keep my overheated Kydex from sticking to my molding foam!!

The sheath is my standard multi position model set up in the cross draw position. It's made with .040 and .060 Kydex. The knife is the first Talonite LiteWave I finished a few weeks ago.

Wow Neil, that looks like one major light rig!!! I need to learn how kydex sheaths are made. They sure are popular. Take care! Michael

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!http://www.nebsnow.com/L6steel

That is awesome!! The knife seems like an accessory though. If I were a tomato, manila rope or whatever else, all you'd have to do is show me the sheath and I'd split in two!!

Dr., Very sharp looking! The knife looks good too!

Great definition!

Just a question...wouldn't the holes in the blade provide enough of a grip for the kydex to keep it secure? You'd be able to trim the sheath down even more. Of course you'd want to keep the blade covered. You might be able to trim it down to the front of the finger groove. That would allow an even better grip for withdrawing.
Just a question...I've never worked with kydex so I could be missing something really obvious.
When/if I do I truly expect it to look like a burnt pancake run over by a bus..

Awesome! Usually I would say 0.040" is strictly for wussies, but with a rig like that I better keep my mouth shut!

Seriously, though, Neil, that looks GREAT! The 0.040" gives superb definition. All the carry options look good, everything is symmetrical...awesome stuff! I guess with a rig that good-looking I could even look past the fact that you used eyelets!

One question....when you draw the knife, does the tip-end of the recurve catch that screw at all, or is the perspective playing tricks on me? Or, does the blade sort of follow the arc of the sheath pressing and it avoids catching there? In any case, AWESOME work! I think I got out of the biz at the right time!

Very nice work indeed. So good that I vow to never show my attempts at Kydex and Concealex work to the forum!

The topic of sheaths does raise a couple of questions:

1. Anyone know where I can get hold of a handful of Tek-Lok devices?
2. What's wrong with eyelets?

Tom,
Never mind my butt cheeks

Shappa,
The neck sheath for the same knife relies on just the blade holes to retain it. For the multi-position sheath, it has to have some area to support the knife so I made it a little longer and wider.
Dave,
I use blue camp mat foam and bare feet!!
No kidding

Chiro,
The screw is close but doesn't hit the blade. Only another Kydex NUT would catch that

In my attempt to make the entire package as small as possible, things get close! I have thrown out lots of Kydex because of this!! I find that the right combination of the two thicknesses provides good strength, positive retention and a smooth draw. Just my own technique I guess!
Gotta go make more black Kydex dust,
Neil
