Hello Everybody;

I just got a Sharpmaker and did my first trials on a couple of SAK s and a Tenacious with great results.

My next step is to touch up my two SOG s (Slim Jim and Access Card 2.0, VG 10).

When I look at the bevel of the SOG s I have the impression that the bevel is very narrow. Do you guys know if I would be ok with the 40 degree set up on my Sharpmaker for those two knives?

Thanks for the feed back.

Try it out and see if it works for you; there's no harm in that. My own tendencies and preferences would be toward honing at the 30° setting, as most edges will hold up fine at that angle, and the cutting will be much improved as well. You might mark the existing bevels with a Sharpie, and see if a pass or two at the 40° setting leaves a narrower bevel than what you're already seeing (look for ink removed nearest to the apex). If so, that might indicate the factory edge is already closer to a 30° angle anyway. Based on what I've seen in my own SOG knives' factory edges, they are ground quite thin near the edge and seem to favor a more acute edge angle; I'd bet they're no more than 30° inclusive.
