beware of a message from ebay that says its your final notice and you need to verify. it will ask for CC information and your pin number. its out of germany and I have reported it to ebay and they have taken steps to go after the ISP.

I got at least one a day for 2 weeks straight...also lookout for the email that says something like "my son has bought your (insert item here, has been laptop, ipod, playstation and others...) and told me it cost $600, now I find out it only cost $300, please contact me to confirm..." and "I have figured out that you or someone using your name has been using my credit card to make purchases on eBay, I am going to pursue legal charges against you if you do not contact me..."
Bottom line is this, If you ever get an "official" looking email from eBay, DO NOT CLIK ON ANYTHING!!!, go to your myebay page and check to see if there is the same email in the my messages...If not then foward the email to spoof@ebay.com but DO NOT clik on anything on the email, If you clik any link on the email it will send you to a webpage that will download a trojan on your computer and attempt to steal your identity by accessing any kind of financial information it can, some can even report keystrokes you make....

hope this helps, I just wish I could put a shoe in the nutz of the guy that keeps spamming me with this crap...

This has been going for a year or so. Nice to see the warning again though.
Funny for a while there I was getting three or four a week.

When I get em from different adress I like to forward them to each of the miscreants. Probbaly does no good but it tickles me. :p :p

I've recieved that and another that was a very good forgery of a Pay Pal correspondence. Some are hard to tell for sure. If in doubt contact ebay or pay pal personally using a known link to the actual places and not the email before going any farther. These crooks are getting pretty darn smart and they are using the technology to help them in ways that would have been impossible just a few years ago.

I just had a new credit card issued because of stuff showing up on my account that wasn't mine so they can get info even when you don't freely hand it over to them. I'm usually pretty cautious about solicitations for information from me.

I received the email and my virus scan caught it and I deleted it. It has saved my bacon more than once.

I get them from banks paypal ebay and a bunch of others

for e-bay and paypal just fw: them to
spoof@paypal.com
or spoof@ebay.com
and they will tell you soon if it's from them or not if your not sure.
if they don't know your name , stay away for sure and if you need to go to the web site do it always from a new browser not from any e-mail
those web sites are very easy to copy. you'll also see when you hover the link that the address is not the same as it says in the link text.. common sense :)

Some time back I was going to update my e-mail addy, but it kept asking for CC information. I was not going to give that info, so it has never been changed.

Just now I did the same thing for the sake of doing it, and it did not ask for cc information.

A few weeks ago I received this e-mail at my new addy. How did they get that?

What do I do if I think I have been hacked?

if any one else has your e-mail address in their computer and they have a computer worm it can send junk from there and look like you sent it out.

I get things that looks like it was send from me, it could be even if my putter was down and no way it could have happened.. it's the way the worms work..keep your virus program up and run a virus check once a week just to make sure you don't have problems and use a fire wall program too. it's the best I can tell you if your not real Puter savvy..not saying that I am..

I just got a similar spoof/phish today (10-03-05) claiming to be from Paypal. It was almost instantaneous after I bought something on Ebay. The grammar was poor and there were spelling mistakes... it claimed to be an message form Paypal letting me know right up front that they had just sent in ILLEGAL UNAUTHORIZED payment to an illegitimate seller from my account. I still have haven't quite got the logic figured out, but they are kind enough to provide a link at the bottom of the page where you can enter your information and "Fix" the problem. Needless to say I forwarded it to paypal's spoof center.

Just remember, NEVER make any changes or fill out info on a link like that... go directly to your account and check to see if there is a real problem there.

I've been after e-bay and paypal to let users know of any problems only by way of your secure account, doing so by letting you know by e-mail only to the point of asking you to go to your account by way of a new browser,

they are doing that more now :) one problem is..
if you have problems and call them they will have a survey e-mail sent to you asking if the person was of good help to you..

the problem is,, it's from a hired out by a non e-bay / paypal company..the link is not a domain of e-bay or paypal... I tell them ( e-bay / paypal ) I will not go to that site to fill out anything,,
e-bay and paypal will tell you they're ok to use,, and I tell them they will never get a survey filled out by me that way..
I keep telling them if they want a survey filled out by me, to put it on my secure account to fill out..
that's not to much to ask for right? :)
