I work for a city police dept in a small town and this scam has happened twice in our city in last little bit. The sellers are selling items located over seas, our cases both were in London England, and they demand the items be paid by Western Union. In the first case the buyer thought he was pruchasing a Jeep Wrangler, for and excellent deal of course, from a female who told him she was in the US Military and she would have the Jeep shipped to him through courtesy of the US Military. The Jeep never arrived of course. In the second case a gentleman purchased a Kawasaki 4-wheeler, for an excellent deal once again, which was again located in London England. Once he sent the cash for the purchase price he was contacted again by the seller who told him if he wanted it insured then another $1,000 was needed to insure it. The sad thing is there is nothing much we can do about these scams except to warn people not to fall for them in the first place which is what I'm dong now. Thanks for your time.

To quote eBay, "Don’t pay with cash or with instant money transfer services, such as Western Union or MoneyGram."

People get excited about stuff on eBay and do stupid things. There was a Romanian scam a few years ago that worked the same way. They would hijack eBay accounts and offer high end optics at ridiculously low prices. The demanded payment by Western Union.

If the seller asks for payment by Western Union, do not walk away from the deal....run.
