I may be up for the horrible dad of the year award.

As most of you know, I've got a 4 month old at home, our first.

We were at Wallyworld and he started screaming so I picked him up for a while. I had the car seat on top part of the cart where it fits.... so I thought.

I went to put him back in and the car seat flipped backwards, he did a back flip and landed on his face on the bottom of the cart. Luckily he landed completely flat and the impact was across his entire body and not just his head.

I feel like a complete idiot for having ever put the darn car seat up there. Talk about feeling like crap.....

I took him to the bathroom to get him calmed down and changed. I checked him out thoroughly and he didn't seem to be in any obvious discomfort. It was his normal nap time and he fell asleep after I got him calm.

I just got off the phone with the Dr and she said it happens all the time and to not put the car seat up there again since it's not safe. She gave me all the signs to look out for over the next 12 hours.

He's sleeping right now and seems good.

Thanks for reading.... I had to vent a bit....

Signed,
Horrible Daddy...

Well, it didn't hurt him; and they say "what doesn't kill us makes us stronger"... so you may have made him stronger.

Don't beat yourself up, accidents happen... think about when he is older and you two are wrestling around and he gets hurt.

In other words, you did ok, and everything turned out for you and the boy.

Heck you have already come up with a plan so this doesn't happen again, you are being more proactive than many parents.

Stand back, take a deep breath and know your boy loves you. ;)

Thanks fellas..

It's my man's first fall... It sucks, but you're right - he's ok and now I've got my first lesson learned. I'm also surprised at how amazingly calm I was during the whole thing. Granted it wasn't anything crazy horrific, but it was to me at the time.

Thanks for the kind words.

I guess he's got a hard head like his daddy :)

If your boys anything like my three, you may as well get used to stitches, broken bones,X rays and even CT scans,if their normal healthy boys, they're going to get hurt occasionally.

Yup - the only thing that made me nervous is that he's only 4 months.

I thought back to all the ER visits I've had over the years and especially as a child - I"m still ok. :D

Babies are surprisingly durable. My nephews have taken some serious falls and come out bruised but not broken. I think God/Evolution/Mother Nature designed them this way knowing that they would fall occasionally despite the best efforts of adults. Glad your little one is OK.

Very glad he's ok. One thing I've learned from working in an ER is that little kids are durable, they can take alot more abuse than you would ever imagine possible.

Wow. I feel for you. I have a 6 week old at home and I have am extremely leery of putting her car seat in one of those baskets. I have noticed that her seat will clip onto the bar across the back or the cart near the push handles. If it won't do that then I just carry her. Hope the kiddo is ok. Best of luck to you and yours.

Thanks fellas - He's doing good!

Right not he's playing on the floor watching the dog eyeing him down.

My wife is at work right now and I made sure not to answer the phone until after I talked to the Dr. Good thing it all worked out for the best.
