The Emerson CQC-7. The most popular tactical folder of all times. A knife that has attained the elusive “Legend” status. The knife that started the entire tactical genre in the Cutlery World. The knife that changed the Face of the entire cutlery industry. There are many more things to list, but it sounds like I’m starting to thump my own chest. You’re damn right I am! I am damn proud of that knife, damn proud of what it has done and damn proud of what I’ve done for the industry. This knife is still the best selling model that we make.

Well now it’s almost 10 years down the road for the CQC-7 knife and what is left to do?

We are going to make an all titanium, 10 year Anniversary, Frame lock version of this knife. It’s called the HD-7 – The Heavy Duty Seven. I put off making any frame lock knife for many years in deference to my very close friend Chris Reeves. Now, everybody and their brother is making framelocks, so here we go.

This 10 year anniversary knife is not just the standard CQC-7 turned into a frame lock. It has been revamped with changes to the handle and subtle changes to the blade design. The knife now has a more pronounced guard in the choil area and the top of the handle follows up the thumb ramp on the blade. Of course it is waved. The knife will feature all titanium handles with stainless steel socket head cap screw construction.

It still feels like a CQC-7 only a little better.

There will be a limited run of all titanium handled versions followed by the production version which will feature a combination of G-10 and Titanium construction. The details for the production version are still being worked out.

Do not miss out, to get a very special version of this important historical knife.

I hope to have one or two prototypes at the New York Knife Show.

Pictures and further details will follow over the next couple of weeks.

Look forward to this one.

Thanks for the post Mr. Emerson.

Please consider an HD-7 with a waved "A" blade. (Wishful thinking). I'm sure our astronauts would want them too. ;)

I use the "A" blade Specwar folder more than my other Emersons but a waved HD-7A would easily become my new favorite.

Nonetheless, the waved HD-7B is definitely a "must have."

Wow, this is exciting news. The CQC7 is the best of the best. Can we get pics, specs, and prices?

Where is the production Super CQC7?

Mr. Emerson, I'd like to humbly request a steel upgrade for your upcoming HD7. I'm an Army medic, and I've spent a lot of time carrying a CQC-7. After mine was lost in Afghanistan I replaced it with a waved mini-commander. My experience with these two knives leaves me with the impression that Emerson grade steel sets a bare minimum standard that some companies have exceeded. Recently facing a decision to buy another CQC-7 or a competitor, I bought the competitor in M2 because of its edge holding ability and ease of edge maintenance. It was a pretty hard decision condsidering my emotional attachment to the CQC-7 I carried for so long. That and I was unaware of any HD7 at the time. I'm very happy that you're moving in this direction, and hope you'll do it in a no-holds-barred manner. Congratulations on the HD7 and thank you in advance for what will certainly send waves through the production knife industry once again. John
(And now I'll start my HD7 fund.)

has there been any news on this lately? SHOT or anything?

also, does "All titanium" mean the blade too?

I'm in the market to pick up either a CQC7, or a SOCFK, and i bumbled across this juicy tidbit!!

(i might just even wait until the production ones come out)

Thanks for such awesome knives! I just gave my minicommander to my father.

I have a well used CQC 7A, and love it!
It may need some "TLC" soon.:D

JWBirch, M2 steel will rust without a coating over it. It might hold an edge better but you have to get M2 with a black coating and coatings get scuffed or rub off.

pics of HD7:

One of the administration people at the host site asked me to remove the links.

What about a production version of the HD7 for those of us who are drooling?

Dan, all-titanium refers to the prototype handle only.
