BF Native serration ratio

How much of the blade is serrated on the BF Native? Is it the same as the standard Native? To me, the standard Native looks like about a 60/40 ratio serrated/plain.

The reason I ask is because I`m looking for a serrated blade with 440v steel. I was going to get a Military but it`s just a little too huge. Same with the Starmate, and I believe that`s only available plain or combo. I might just get a serrated BF Native but I want something with more serrated edge than plain. Anyone have the serrated BF Native? How do you like it? Do you think I`d be happy with it, serration-wise?

Thanks!

Well, I don't have an answer, but I'm curious too. I'm a bit surprised that the order page doesn't have pictures or scans of both models -- it still has a scan of the prototype. My BF Native is a plain edge, but I've been thinking about getting one of the (partially?) serrated ones. Seeing a picture would make the decision easier.

Steve B.,

I am looking at a Native II - SS handled that is serrated: visually it looks like 55% plain, 45% serrated - almost 50/50. The blade on the BN should be the same. It was the only blade choice otherwise I would have gotten a plain. IMHO, a partially serrated knife with a blade in the 3" range is a bummer to both worlds - I rather use an all plain, or all serrated

I will send you a pic.

Wow, EWOK. There are more serrations on the BN that I had expected. Looks about 65% - way more than the ones on a Native II. I think I like the BN serrations better

Yeah, great scan Ewok.

Maddog2020 is correct. My 1998 mini-Spydie catalog shows that the standard FRN Native (C41BK) has a 35/65 edge. The SS Native II lists as a 50/50 edge.

Thanks, Ewok, you've just helped sell another serrated BF Native

-- I was considering one to match my plain-edged one, then was a little underwhelmed looking at the pics of the stainless Native last night, but your scan is terrific, and the knife looks great! The 70/30? ratio reminds me of the Military: tip clean, rest toothy.

That's great! Maybe I should try again with better lighting. Hey Mike, do I get a commission?

I've been carrying and using a serrated BF Native for a couple of months now. Hungry little blade!!! Great utility knife.

The truth comes out Mike S., you are just a serrated kinda guy?! LOL...I thought you were just into the hookbills like the Harpy. Oh..... you like the TEETH

Ray,

Of course I like serrations. Blade stays sharper longer. I also like plain edges. Both have their place. And for most of my cutting chores, the Harpy or Merlin is ideal, but the BF Native is so sharp, has the serrations plus just enough plain edge, and is an absolute joy to use. Those of you who, use their BF Natives know what I'm talking about.

I just ordered the serrated BF Native. This one is for my son. He was saving for a Military but was so impressed with my plain blade BF Native that he decided to get the serrated version instead of the Military. He just wanted to make sure it wasn`t a standard combo edge. He had been hassled once already for his Endura and figured a Military might be a little too aggressive looking for carrying around our little town. The Blue Native is certainly a lot less threatening! Plus, he`s helping support the forum we all love so well! (I`m so proud of him!)
