Since the shutdown of Bladeforums, I had to have something to occupy my time. This one still needs a lot of sanding and handle-buffing, but I figured I'd show you all what I've been doing since the forums were down. :D

Pics are bad, but I shot them early this morning -- you get the idea though. Hopefully, I finish up the sanding tonight. :)

  Jeez, Burchmeister. You be gettin good! :)

I love it! The blade is awesome with that visible temper line and the bocote looks great too. Great blade to handle ratio too. Keep it up, and I will have to place an order.

Thanks -- hopefully everything turns out well tonight. I've got some hamon-line work to do tonight to make it even more pronounced.

Nope, that is some unfettered bocote. It hasn't touched anything but sandpaper yet.

Very nice! Great blade design, nice hamon...and you're going to try to bring it out more, very good handle to blade ratio, Great wood...and I'm sure it will really "pop" once you get the final finsh done.
The only thing I think that could improve it...smaller pins. Just to let the eye rest on the wood easier. Wouldn't make a difference on the strenght or stability of the knife, just more viually appealing.
Just my 2 cents.
I'm impressed.

Thanks -- For some reason, I've been stuck on that steel tubing stuff! ;)

Don't forget to show us a final pic. I really want to see the finished knife! It should be outstanding.

Nice one Michael! That Bocote is nice looking wood, one of my favorites right up there with Brazillian Rosewood. I really like the raised portion of the blade, that is a superfine touch. Nice hamon! Did you clay coat that? If so, what'd you use for the insulator?

How come all you guys were able to make knives while the forum was down? Lot of work got done! :D Me, I was dead into my "honey-do" list. Two items added for each item scratched off. Ain't that the rule? Who makes these rules? They suck.

Especially when compared to alternative work like this! Nice job, and thanks for sharing. Keep it going!

Dave

Thanks -- I finished it up last night. I clay coated it with refractory cement (lots of it) and used a hand-rubbing technique from Mr. Cutter to turn the hamon white.

Very nice...that Hamon sure came up nice. Bocote's a great wood.

Thanks for the follow up pic.

Pic of sheath and knife I made tonight --
