BFC 10,000th member?

As I entered the forum, I noticed that there are now 9799 members. What will happen when # 10,000 joins? This will happen in the next few weeks. Any prizes given out?

I think at the rate people have been joining it will be about the 10th of March that the 10,000th member joins.
It's going to get harder and harder to win that monthly knife giveaway, so I guess I better win it pretty soon.
It's going to be great to be here as we move on to 20,000 members, and we will get there.

I talked with Mike, about this a couple of months ago, I don't think he's going to do anything, so I guess we will have to do it ourselves.

I'm going for March 11, at 9:00pm.

Technically we are over 10K now. Many members are pruned or deleted from time to time. About 600 to date.

Picking the 10,000 member will be hard to do and it would make someone try and create a new profile just to be that person. So in the regard a contest or such would not be fair.

We will do something, so stay tuned, just not sure what.

May I suggest we do this: stop pruning or deleting people. It makes this place look like some sort of cruel dictatorship with You as the King, and Spark as the executioner. Then again, some folks really do need a little pruning now and then. It's just that capital punishment seems a little harsh. Wouldn't banishment do as well?

Of course, you probably mean deleting someones electronic profile, which is altogether different from cruel, arbitrary, and unjust deletion of actual people. I probably just misunderstood what you meant

I often wonder how many members are actively participating at any given time.

What I mean is, even though there may be 10,000 (+/-) registered members currently, it seems as though I see the same people over and over posting. Then some new people come along, then some of those leave, and so on.......

I can't believe that there are 10,000 members that actively use BFC and I'm kinda' glad. There's enough to read as it is.

Anyhow, it appears that this forum is definately the dominant force in the world of knives. Period!!!

I'm sure they have at least a general idea of the number of active members. Mike's fancy computer has to be able to generate that list every month to assign everyone a number for the drawing. I would be interested to know exactly how many that is from month to month.

I remember when we first broke 2000 members. That seemed like a lot back then (Summer1999). 10,000 is just mind boggling! I would like to see a list showing the benchmark dates of each 1000 memberships. Just to see how fast it happened.

It looks like at the rate things are going that we will reach 10,000 members today or tommorrow. That is even ahead of when i first predicted. The popularity af this forum is amazing.
