Anybody know how the 112s were stamped "BG-42?"

There's a fancy one up on the entertainment site and the stamp is on the reverse from the Custom stamp and looks more like an etch than a real stamp.

Just wondering......too rich for my blood anyway.

Full moon fever!

Never mind.....I finally found it.

A couple years before Buck moved to Idaho I got the shop to do a special run of BG-42 112 blades. If I remember right, it was less than 200 blades. We used them for blade swaps only. YOu could send in your 112, plus $35, and we would switch out the blades. The blades are all gone now, and so is the blade swap service.
If you do find one of these out there for sale, the blade will be laser etched BG-42 on the oposite side of the stamp.

No wonder it looks fake.................IT'S REAL WITH A LASER ETCH!!!

Never knew they did that. Go figure.

:)

I'll add another humorous little tidbit to the story. The blades were all finished and ready to be used when I saw that they were not stamped bg-42. The shop supervisor told me he did not know it would matter but he could temper them back and stamp them but that could cause issues. The only other option was to etch them so thats what we did.

Well, it looks like this is one of those blades, all right.

Expensive little number.

Yeah.....even today I'm still kicking myself for my inexplicable failure to take Buck up on that offer......probably the last/best/most amazing offer an American knife company EVER MADE!!!!!

Or ever will make.

Oh yes......I was busy. I was distracted. I procrastinated. I had other irons in the fire. I was a fool.

Ouch.

I just can't wait to get a 422 you don't have to temp you into a swap for that blade! In all of my collecting 112's I have only seen 1 but have seen pics of 5 or 6... Then only in plain wood and brass..I hope to run into one for sale for under 100.00 some day as it IS a rare/odd 112 for sure! I know of a forum member who has 5 or so [seen way deep in the picture thread] but most all of the run were put into Buck collectors hands from the gitgo and never show up for sale....Someday...
