BG-42 or S30V Military?

I plan on buying either the CF S30V or the BG-42 for actually USING (not for collecting). What steel would you say is superior? I know either purchase is going to be a lot of $$, so I want to make sure I get the better of the steels. This will be for everyday type use - including a lot of camping, widdling, opening stuff, etc.

TIA

The BG is the better made knife...even has dual nested liners. It is the most advanced Military yet made.

IMO, if you have to ask which is "better" in the steel department, that means you aren't a steel snob and wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Either will work well for USING. ;)

Just for the sake of the nested liners I would go with the BG 42 version. For a guy like me thats a light user I wouldnt even be able to tell the difference between S30V and BG42 anyway.

For me, I'll take BG42 anytime over the still excellent S30V.

BG42 to me is a cleaner, better edge taking, high quality steel. I would gladly take the toothier edged, still strong but harder to get the sharpest of edges S30 too though.. It might have slightly more wear resistance than BG42, but it's close. They are really close in most respects and I wouldn't argue with someone that preferred S30V over BG42. I don't count corrosion resistance due to my maintenance schedule.

Either should give you excellent service. I like the Military BG42 sprint better, but there are smart, experienced that disagree. Maybe the coin flip isn't such a bad idea. Joe

The black blade Military S30V has dual liners, just as the BG42 version.
The 50/50 edge is also quite handy,
:)

Well, I don't have either Military right now, but I do have two Buck 110's....one with BG-42 and one with S30V.

Overall, I prefer the S30V to the BG-42.
It just seems to get a little sharper than the BG-42, although both are outstanding steels.

Good luck,
Allen
