Good evening everyone,
I'm looking for a source for BG-42. I've been reading about it and I want to try it out. Right now all I can find is industrial suppliers that require bulk orders, I'm just looking foe somewhere that I can find a few bars. Any help is aplreciated.

It might be easier to find some B75-p, pm version. Cowry-y is a Japanese pm version.

Back in the day, Chris Reeve Knives used it exclusively.

Larrin might have some information on it. My guess is that BG-42 stands for bearing grade 4% moly 2% vanadium.

Thanks Devin, I'm going to do some searching and see if I can come up with some B75-p or Cowry-y.

I've been in touch with Tim, and was told that BG42 is still being produced, but probably only in .375" thickness. Which is great if you want to make an integral, ( I do want! ) but otherwise Carpenter's B75P is a good analog

Where can you buy it in that thickness?

My understanding is that it can be ordered fro
Carpenter Technologies, but it has to be ordered in bulk.

I was able to purchase Tim Wrights stock of BG-42. I'm getting about 47 pounds worth of steel. I'm very excited. Its a little on the thicker side ~3/16".
I'm still on the lookout for some thinner stock as well. If anyone has more information please let me know. I'm trying to develop a healthy stockpile.

I think he messaged me by accident, saying the steel was on its way. On its way to you, I guess 😂

What is rubberized carbon fiber?
It is carbon fiber that uses a resin that sets up like rubber instead of hard like epoxy. It gives the knife scales more of a warm feeling than regular carbon fiber. The material also works more like rubber than regular carbon fiber. It cuts and sands really nice. The material pills up like rubber and you don't get those nasty carbon fiber splinters and itch.

I used to get pieces from AJ Composites...they don't seem to have it anymore.

Thats where mine came from. I bought a 18x15" sheet last time they had some. I should have bought all of it. I'm working with someone to figure out how to make it so it can be accessible for anyone. Hopefully I have some news on that front in the near future.
