Is it the visual pattern you like better or the milling pattern? The visual pattern in the scales is dictated by the milling done to the scale. I have examples of both and personally like the newer design because it feels less "blocky" in my hand. The rings are created by milling a more circular swell vs a swell that is more perpendicular to the grip.

I tend to buy Micarta on large blades so don't notice it as much in appearance but I am on the fence as to which one I like better in multi-color G-10.

The milled pattern, deffinately like the thicker magnum handles, I've held big blades before with the standards and just too thin.

I'm not sure what you're saying exactly, is it that the grips will only have the "diamond" check texturing throughout, sort of like the ergo2 handles? If so I never knew they made any fusion handles like that.

Hard to tell if Diamond and wave or just diamond textured, but on the colored g10 its just going to be rings of black showing through vs the older style that has deeper milled texturing for a better "looking" 2 color pattern.

Thanks for clarifying. I re-read Cpirtle's post too and think I'm on the right page now. I ordered micarta so I'm less worried about how it looks. Seems like I can maybe make out a little "wave" pattern in the proto pic, but in pic 1 above I can't tell at all.

Uptown problems

I prefer the older style as well, but I think the newer shaping/contouring feels better in hand. I also prefer micarta over G-10..The only two colored G-10 that is growing on me is the black/tan.

I'm with Ickythump on this one. I like the looks of the old straight "grained" (for lack of a better term) pattern but I like the feel of a more rounded contour that causes the ringed patterns.

don't get me started.... I got a orange/black on black and blue/black on black because I always wanted to k nab those colored handles on a busse but always chicken out and go micarta or tan/black . I figure if I'm going to go bright go all in and do it on a bigass blade with a large handle
