Hello friends-

I'm considering buying three (new in box, originally from a closed store inventory, now owned by a private) small sebenzas in BG42. i think the guy can give me a good price.

the guy won't sell only one if i want a deal, so i'll keep one or two and eventually sell the other(s).

Two of these knives are unique graphic with bead blasted screws and blue thumbstud and spacer. never been used or disassembled-

the other is a small regular also with bead blasted screws and blue thumbstud and spacer. new as well.

Considering the fact that the knives are new, how much do you guys think should i offer or accept? i don't want to risk having to resell for less than i pay for....

also, should the two unique graphics come with leather slips? the guy says he got the knives without them.

thanks

Hard to say. I think the market has cooled just a bit including uniques. I'd suggest you buy them only if you like the uniques yourself even then I'd offer about $75 less then current prices. If you don't like them that much as were mostly interested in reselling them, I wouldn't offer more then $200 for the plan and maybe $235 for the uniques.

Dave,

thanks for the reply. they guy wants around 300+ for the uniques and probably around 270 for the plain.

I really like one of them but i wouldn't buy all three if i risk to keep them forever or loose money. (don't plan to make money either).

i though new bg42s could have been a better value.

thanks a lot for the prompt reply as always.

I've never bought low and sell high with regards to sebenzas, maybe I don't have the timing or the touch. I try to stick with what I like now and skip the rest.

Yeah I have the same experience as Dave. I think Sebenzas are a good long term investment (>10 years). As for the short term I know that CRK won't let a knife go out the door without someone (even a dealer) paying a pretty penny. Chances are that the person you are dealing with also wants to buy low and sell high so I doubt he would be very flexable on price. I think you should buy the knives if you like them but as a short term investment I don't think it makes sense. But who knows, give it a try, if you can save a little money, go for it.

Funny cause I just traded my Small Classic BG-42 for about $280 worth of knives. It was a true user in every sense, rebeveled and marks on the Ti. (it's like a missing limb now - I can still feel it in my waistband. The Phantom Seb haha)

I have to admit that I've owned both S30V and BG-42 Sebenzas and prefer the latter. Maybe it's the slightly rockwell hardness or just a placebo effect but I if I were in the market for a Sebenza, I'd buy the BG-42 again.

If that NIB Small Reg was a classic version I'd pay $300 for it easily... hmm... how do I contact this guy? ;)

BTW, there was a TON of interest in my Seb (mostly cause of the BG-42).

I don't know what you should offer but I have several bg models and they are without a doubt my favorite Sebbies. Good find!

thanks guys for the replies.

I have the knive on hold and i'll decide what to do by saturday. I'll for sure buy the one i want even if i have to pay a little extra, but i'm not sure about the other two. i'll buy all of them only if the price is good. maybe i'll keep all three, or sell two of them without rushing, at the right price for me.

Thanks again for the advices.
