It finally arrived, what a BEAST.
Very excited to get this, ordered it back in Feb and first let me just say THANK YOU Jerry Busse for designing and producing these awesome knives right here on our American shores. I spoke with Dan Busse a few weeks ago and he told me this was an awesome blade; well I can verify he's right.
So this is it; the ICON, the Battle Grade Fusion Steel Heart:
This is the Busse "logo knife." According to the website, Busse built the first BG SR-101 blades back in 2001, right after the terrorists attacked us on 9/1. "In the 14 years since then, we have been inundated by police and military units with requests for more Busse designs to be made out of this material due to its now legendary performance and price advantage."
Overall Length: 14.5"
Blade Width: Approx. 2 inch wide slab of SR-101
Blade Length: 8.25"
Blade Thickness: .312" (5/16")
My first impression when I pulled it out of the box, (after some drooling and speechless staring) dang, this thing is a monster. Black Micarta pops off the jet black blade and my first Fusion handle just begs to be grabbed. Palm-swell fills the hand, this is a lot of handle. Might be too much handle for smaller hands and too much knife overall for social justice warriors. I mean geez, it's a beast. Closest thing I have to it would be the other beast; the RATWEILER by Swamp Rat (Bussekin). And my Ratweiler really is a massive 1/4 inch thick slab, but the new BGFSH is... well, massiver. I took a few shots of the both of 'em together (below) and it's kind of like a Nile Crocodile sitting next to a Rhinocerous. If they ever got in a fight, you wouldn't want to be in the middle of it.
Which one feels better in the hand? Hmm, well at first I would say the Ratweiler handle, with its crazy curves, it's like nothing I've ever seen or felt. It's what drew me to the Bussekin brand, and that handle is going to be hard to beat. But the Fusion is also very nice; I mean just look at it, good gosh, the signature Busse Fusion design is just glorious. Plus, it's got holes in it, so you can attach a paracord hand guard, or maybe dangle some bones or shrunken heads from your last Amazon adventure. How cool is that?
Without a doubt this BGFSH is the strongest brute of a blade that I own. In an emergency I'm sure you would have no problem cutting your way out of a car roof or even going through a cement block wall. Bravo BUSSE. Enjoy the photos.
