Hi John,
The
X-42 Field Knife (part number: BGH93-L) comes in BG-42 stainless steel. This knife has been shipping for a couple months.
The
Field Pup (part number: FP3-K) comes in AUS 8 stainless steel. This knife is ready and in our warehouse, and upon receipt of sheaths next week, will begin shipping.
Since the announcement of these knives, the Field Pup always has going to differ dramatically from its larger X-42 Field Knife sibling in size, steel, handle construction, and cost; but not design philosophy. Using AUS 8 was one of the ways to meet the cost objective. Can you believe MSRP at $49.95, making some retailers selling it under $40?
Just for general information, SOG uses the prefix X-42 on every knife that uses BG-42 steel. In casual speak, a knife might be called the Field Knife, but its formal name is the X-42 Field Knife.
I've been handling the production model of the Field Pup that made it way to my desk for a visit.
Wow...Wow...Wow! What more can I say. Fit. Finish. Feel. And dang sharp!
John, if there is anything else I can do for you, please let me know. And a very warm welcome to BladeForums!
