Well, about 15 or more years ago, I was compelled to buy a real khukri, simply based on shape alone. The lovely leaf shaped goodness, and a growing love for the larger and heaver choppy type blades.

I had already gotten an original Becker Machax and a Becker Reinhardt as well as ColdSteel khukri shaped objects, but wanted more, and something ... authentic. At the time, I only knew about a few from our Southern friends at Atlanta Cutlery. Turns out that was a Bhojpure, which served well, was mirror fine, and razor sharp. I retired it after a bit, because, well, I liked it too much to abuse to death (tried to buy another one, and failed), so... off to other solutions :) Eventually, the buffalo handle failed and split in mighty fashion. So, I rehandled it in my own amusing way: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=388525

For it's size, I've really seen nothing quite as MASSIVE feeling as that khuk, the spine is really thick, and there's quite a scallop of a fuller on each face. It's gone through hell, and has marks I probably can't easily polish out, yet will try eventually when I have better means. It deserves it.

So, on a very recent DOTD:

a nice villager "Bojpore" shows up, at a nice price. MINE. SHARK. Hee.

The knife arrived somewhat oily, and appeared to have a VERY light sheen/patina of almost rust... few spots on the steel bolster, few edge bits. 20 minutes with a scotch bright and soap and water seems to have cleaned most of that off. I'm still going to steel wool and 2000 grit it, then oil it up good. That field sharp edge really is one of the sharper edges I've seen lately, and a very fine edge it it - it has the tink of hardness in the right places - seriously tempted to etch it, but well, it's cold out, and that's an outdoor project - very stinky I'm told. It'll wait. What else? Good long handle. Appears to be old stock? There's no UB on it. Flower Kami is Dil Bhadur Kami, the chakma/karda appears to be extra long as well, very slim, and well formed. the karda is sharp :)

Specs:
OLD: 16 inch 20.4 ounce
HI: 15 inch 21.1 ounce

Here they are side by side, they look pretty close and all:

Laid one atop the other, the old one is obviously bigger, leafier, and longer, yet the smaller one weighs more. Feels like it has a lot of chopper in it for the size. Very fine edge, I imagine it'll penetrate well, and do good things.

So, 15 years, then and now, full circle. Lots of knives, lots of things chopped. Good times :)

sweet pics bladite...
thanks for sharing and i look forward to your review :)

me too :) generally speaking, they have to be leafy and wide, which usually works out to shorter and choppier for a given weight compared to something longer and skinnier. yah.

the bonecutters look like the ultimate in compact powerhouses. the allure of the old GRS taken along further :)
