Does anyone have any information on the Bianchi Nighthawk #855 fixed bladed knife from the late 1970's marked Solingen on the back? Since Bianchi did not make the knives, who did? Are they of good quality? Is there any interest in these knives?

Thanks,
Craig

Craig -- welcome to the forums! Sorry your post has met so little response. My guess is that it hit a wide area of ignorance.

You probably would do better to post your question on Bernard Levine's forum here or at Knife Forums. Am sure he can answer questions about how many were sold, present value, etc. The man is a walking encyclopedia.

Your other option(s) of course, is to run searches in the archives of this General forum. They go back to the inception of BFs, and it sounds more likely discussion of your knife is more likely to have occurred in the past than recently. At least I recall no other threads on it in my time. (Then again, I'm not quite sure what my name was yesterday, either.)

Enjoy the forums. Read the FAQs. Use the search feature. Any questions about knives made by companies which have forums in the manufacturers group should be addressed there, unless you believe the knife is quite well-known. Of course, you can post your questions in more than one forum also.

I sincerely hope that the Forums prove to be as informational and enjoyable for you as they have proven to be for me!

I remember the knife and believe it was called "NightHawk" It had a really well made sheath. I remember more mid to late eighties though as the time frame. Sorry thats about all I can help you with.

Don't know much about these but they have always struck me as atractive well made knives. A "like new" model on ebay can fetch near $100.oo. Much less if not perfect.

Hi There!

The Nighthawk was actually a Carl Schlieper/Eye Brand model named the "Survival Knife" (yeah! I know, I know.. but that was the way things were back then in the late 20th century). It was part of their range of Survival Knives made in the mid 1980's.

The original sheath designed for the "Survival Knife" was not as well made, as that found on the Bianchi "Nighthawk". There were mirror polished finished blades and black parkerized military variants. Sold in cardboard boxes and also wooden Survival package (Can't remember the items). All blades were hand ground, ice tempered, and were of Stainless Steel i have yet to identify. It is more of a collectable piece now that Carl Schlieper is no longer producing any such knives.
Last I heard, they aren't even around anymore.

Carl Schlieper, in name at least, are still being produced in the way of slip joint folders under the German Eye Brand.

Thanks for all the replies to my post.

I am very interested in the Bianchi Nighthawk and the information and pictures were very helpful.

Thanks,

Craig

I have one of these....bought the thing back when I was just a kid. As everyone has said...it has a very well made sheath (it was made by Bianchi Gunleather...would you expect any different??) and the knife aint bad either. It's a stout knife...mine has gone with me camping several times and always does what I need it to do...i.e. cut things....not break. I found the mirror finished blade to be a little too much work to take care of though so I bead blasted mine (I didn't buy it to be a collectible, I bought it to use). The only gripe I have is that the saw teeth are pretty much worthless, but aren't they always on "survival" type knives?
