I was just given a Biber splitting axe. It's new, says Biber, hickory on the handle and the axehead says Biber 1800. What did I get?

Müller axe from I think Germany.
I have one of there Biber Classic forest axes & it's quite good.
Though the alignment is a little off the grain orientation is near perfect.

If the 1800 stamp has actual meaning (ie mass in grams) then the head will be about 4 pounds, which should do you OK.

Looks like you may have a 4-lb (1.8 kg) splitting axe. You can get Biber axes at Traditional Woodworker. They are top of the line tools made by Mueller axe. Not cheap tools by any means.

leonard mueller axes branded biber, lots of ranges, traditionnal forged ones, like g b rustic look or more industrial ones.

once i had all my professionnal axe from them, and new hafts, from mueller., no only one left, and may be my hardest steel one (rhc)

1800 grs or 1kg 800 gr
are about 4 pounds
wich is quite light for a splitter
mine weights; 1 kg, on short haft, the "inside wood shed splitter", the well designed 2,500 kg and the tiring beast 3,500 kg!
none of them is biber small one is mob, and the 2 others are leborgne french brand (means one eyed, if you want to smile a bit)
