I recently purchased this "Spirit of 76" bowie knife, and would like some information, since i am missing all relevant paperwork. What materials are the blade and handle? How many were produced? What is the model #? And any other important details.

I am very pleased to add this one to my collection, since I am not only a patriotic American, I am also a 1976 model 😁.
Thanks for any help that yall can give.

I researched this knife after I bought mine(without the coin). IIRC Buck had not used this pattern before and haven't used it since, thought I saw a model number but couldn't find it. There were(supposedly) 7600 of them made, walnut handle, Aurum Deep acid etched blade w/coin.. It was assigned the name Spirt of '76 as listed in the BCCI model history, special projects of 1976. HTH

Not all the way your question's have not been answered, see more of the History below.

The Spirit of 76 Buck knife was their (Buck's) first commemorative knife, not their first deep etched or LE knife. Now this one haunted Chuck Buck for decades. It was made for the year 1976, the Bicentennial year. However, Aurum had delays in production and by the time the knives were delivered they missed the Bicentennial hoopla. To make matters worse, they ordered 7600 of these blades. If you look at todays limited edition knives issues of 250 - 500 are the norm, up to about 1000 any more and some sit stagnate and not selling. Chuck did not know how many would sell and way over estimated. The last of these blades were used up for the BCCI 25th or the 30th event if I remember correctly (memory sucks, getting old). That's a very long time to carry inventory LOL! So the link above is total BS about this knife being rare as there are 7600 of them.

These sold both with and without the original sheaths. They had more blades left over than sheaths left over.

Just to show how time flies, these were sold at the BCCI 20th!

Ok, so NOT entirely rare, but still a good looking knife. Yes, I read the above worthpoint ad with a grain of salt. With all of the evil bay ads listing 2018 "vintage" and "extremely rare" standard production knives with inflated prices, I've grown skeptical of any write-ups that I find online.

Which is the reason why I asked my questions here. I wanted a valid source of information, not some random facts thrown together by A.I.

Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge, I really appreciate it.
